Marshall was born in Canada in 1911 and lived until 1980.
- His mother was a school teacher, and his father sold houses.
- Marshall was good at sports, but also loved to study books and stories. He studied these things in Canada, and in England.
- He eventually became a professor at the University of Toronto.
- Marshall was alive when television was invented, and he knew it would become an important part of people's lives.
- A lot of his philosophy is about ways that ideas are given to us, and the way we think about them.
- He thought that when use a new way to tell people things (like television), they understand ideas in a different way.
- Even though he wasn't alive when the internet was invented, he thought something like it was coming.
- He said that one day, people would be able to study, get information, and do all kinds of things without ever leaving their houses.
- He also believed that technology like television and the internet would bring people from different parts of the world closer together.
