Meet Ayn Rand
She was born in Russia about a hundred years ago.- Even though Ayn's family had good jobs, and enough money, life in Russia was sometimes hard because a revolution was happening.
- She visited relatives in the United States when she was a young woman, and decided to stay for good.
- Before she became a philosopher, she started out in the movie business, acting in very small parts and reading scripts.
- She also wrote novels, and taught students at universities.
- Ayn thought a lot about how to be good.
- She surprised people by saying that it was okay to think about yourself first.
- She believed that everyone always thinks about themselves a little bit. We just can't help it!
- This doesn't mean that we can't still be good to other people. It just means that we'll always be a little bit selfish too.
